Interview with Phyliss Myers of Accessorize with Phyliss

As promised ... This week's interview.

I have known Phyliss for a couple of years now and during that time I have personally witnessed her giving it her all to her business and her customers.  With her box of bling she brings hope, fun and sparkly things.  As you read her interview, you will get a peek at her servant’s heart.

What is the name of your business?
Accessorize with Phyliss using Premier Designs Jewelry.
What is the product that you provide?
It is a two-fold product.  I provide high fashion jewelry at an affordable price and I help women learn how to accessorize their outfit; whether it be work, play or date [outfit].
When did you start accessorize with Phyliss?
Accessorize with Phyliss I started a year.  I have been part of Premier Designs for 3 years.
Why is there a difference between with 1 year and the 3 years?
I re-branded myself last year with the help of my coach (that’s ME!) and we had talked about it and the name that I was using was not telling people what I was doing so Accessorize with Phyliss using Premier Designs jewelry says a lot more of who I am and what I offer.
Branding  … even when you are in a direct sales like Premier Designs … is so important!  It helps your customer build a relationship that goes just the product itself.  Plus who doesn’t love to show off their own personality?
Where is your business located?
I work from home and I can travel all around the Unites States and Puerto Rico (can I get a WEPA!) doing my business.
Who does your business serve?
Women of all ages.  Working women, stay-at-home moms but I try to target working women.
When you say target, would you consider that to be your ideal client?
My ideal customer is women in the workforce.
What need does your customer fulfill for your customers?
It helps them complete their outfit [by using Premier Designs jewelry].  When they look in the mirror they see a complete picture and they feel good about themselves.
Being very familiar with Premier Designs, I know that their beautiful jewelry can help take an outfit from blah to wow!
Anything you want to say about the need or the service that your Premier Designs jewelry provides?
I also provide one-on-one style session to women who perhaps … my business is based on home parties and a lot of times women do not want to have a home party for whatever reason so I do one-on-one or one-on-one a few of her friends instead of a whole group of people.   I have the ability to do that.  It does not necessarily have to be in her home.  It can be anywhere she chooses.
You said home parties.  Is that the main marketing plan for your type of business?
Yes it is.  For Premier Designs, the home party is the main marketing plan.  Even though we can also do fundraisers and participate in vendor events.
Can you have a store?
No.  No brick and mortar.
Your business is a direct sales party plan, is there anything else you want to say about Premier Designs itself?
Premier Designs has been in business this is their 30th year that they have been in business and it is a biblically based company that honors God, the family and then business third. They also don’t have quotas so what that means is we do not have to sell X amount dollars per month or quarter to get our discount.  We get paid immediately when we sell whether it be off our table or at a home party.  We do not have inventory.  We are not required to have inventory.
Is there any other need that your business fulfills?
Yes.  I have the privilege of helping other women start and build a successful home-based business.  We pride ourselves on touching lives and helping other women realize that they are valuable and they have worth and that they have been created by God and have immense value and they can achieve anything they want in life.
That was awesome!
Anything else?
We support over 40 missions worldwide.
A lot of our jewelry is put together here in the United States though we may gather product from other countries.  And they pride themselves on having a quality product for an affordable price.
Our company is debt free.  Always has been.
Are you considered an independent representative?
I am an independent jewelry consultant.
The jewelry itself.  What kind of jewelry is it?
It’s high fashion jewelry.  Affordable.  The mean price is $35 to $55 and our product is high quality.  They do not use sterling silver for the silver plating.  They use pure silver, 99% pure silver.  If a woman can only afford one piece which she can get the most bang for her buck!  We just came out with a line for spring and one of the necklaces can be worn 30 different ways and that is what we try to do so that women can get the most out of their product.
We start at $12 and go all the way up to $102.
You said your jewelry is high fashion jewelry.  What is that?
High fashion jewelry is the bridge between costume and fine jewelry because of the quality of the product it is better than costume but is not real gold or silver jewelry.
What would be considered costume jewelry?
The stores that you see in the mall that sell accessories sell costume jewelry.  Where the quality is less.
Who is your support system?
The main person in my life is my husband.  He is a retired Marine.  He was in the service for 30 years and he is 100% military disabled, war vet.  He is my biggest supported.  I also a very small group of friends who are very supportive and help me with my business.  Not necessarily buying from me but giving me moral support and advice when I need it.
Support is PRICELESS!
How did you get bitten by the entrepreneurial bug?  How did you get started in all this?
It is not the first time that I have worked in direct sales in jewelry.  I did work for another jewelry company and it was not a great experience.  And I was a customer of Premiers for 2 years prior to my becoming a jewelry lady.  I was interested in it but afraid to join another direct sales company because of the bad experience.  [But] This particular company walks the talk!  They are very transparent.  They are a biblically based company which was important to me.  Very supportive of each other!  And meaning … quick story.  Last year at rally, one of the girls had an airline ticket and the airline cancelled the flight and neglected to tell her.  She couldn’t afford to buy another ticket.  We all rallied together and bought the ticket for her so that she could go to national rally and I see that again and again and again with jewelry ladies throughout the country where we rally around those that have lost their home, lost their jobs or have been robbed or whatever the case may be, this company rallies around its employees both at the home office and the independent jewelry ladies throughout the United States and that is one of the reasons why I decided to join this company.
I understand why you picked this particular company to represent but why did you pick direct sales?
It gives me the independence that I need.  In the beginning I started it as a second income to help pay off some financial burdens that I had but because of my husband being 100% military disabled, it gives me the independence to work when I want, be available for him and be my own boss.
I don’t have to ask for vacation or I don’t have to explain my time.
I can take time off when I want which is another good thing about the company, having no quotas.  If I am not selling, no one is calling me on the phone and harassing me about that.  In fact, two years ago, I broke my arm and I couldn’t sell for 3 months and they have a prayer department and they prayed with me. And when I went to rally they met me in person and that just shored up to me that I was working with the right company.
It is very clear that Phyliss is very proud to be a JEWELRY LADY and that she LOVES Premier Designs and its beliefs.
What has been your biggest success so far?
My biggest success so far is feeling better about myself and who I have become because of this company.  Being able to help others, not necessarily in this business but just help others realize their personal worth and I always say that it doesn’t matter what you sell, if you don’t believe in what you are selling you are not going to be happy.  Whether it is a purple widget, jewelry or makeup or whatever you are selling.  You have to believe in the product.  I love Premier.  I love what they stand for and I don’t see myself leaving there any time soon and I tell that to women when I meet them or when I am in a group situation that it may be for you or it may not be for you but you have to find out what works for you and that is my biggest success to me.
Let me repeat what Phyliss just said … “it may not be for you but you have to find out what works for you”.  Wowser!  We all have to give IT (whatever that IT is) a GO!!  And she did.  Even after a bad experience she gave it a go and she found a company that she loves to represent.  Success!!
How does your business allow you to pay it forward?
I do fundraisers [by selling Premier Designs jewelry and donating a portion of the profits] for several groups.  One of which is animal rescue which is close and dear to my heart.
What has been your biggest challenge up to now?
My biggest challenge has been getting organize, staying organized and following through.  Working at home can sometimes be a blessing and a curse because you can become lazy and not put the time into the business end of it.  Meaning the paperwork.
How have you helped yourself overcome this challenge?
I have an accountability group (with systematicYOU y’all!).  I have a coach (ME!) and through that accountability group, I getting better at the business side of my business.  Keeping my focus where it should be.  It is not always easy.  Life gets in the way but its little baby steps.
So proud of Phyliss.  She is a fighter and does not ever give up!!  In addition to admitting that she needs the extra push and finding someone, something to give it to her!
Time for a fun question, if you could be a super hero, what power would you possess?
The power of healing!
What is it about being an entrepreneur that you just LOVE!?
The freedom to be able to help others.
What value does having your own business bring to your life?
I think the most important value that I gain is my self-worth.  That I am able.  I am ENOUGH!  I don’t need anyone else’s approval other than myself.
And with that said ... we are ending this interview!  I am ENOUGH!  You are ENOUGH!  We are ENOUGH!

Tribe Quote # 1

An egg timer + YOU = focus, focus, focus!

There are so many distractions (a.m. shinny objects) out there. Facebook, gadgets with all their beeping notifications, kids, a funny cat video on YouTube, new ideas, a glass of wine, a string on your blouse, a scoop of ice cream and well ... you can finish up the list of all the shiny objects out there than can derail you from the things we need to do.

I have told my customers that shinny objects are not the enemy.  Actually these shinny objects is the new now.  What you really need to do is re-learn how you manage yourself.  So instead of telling you to lead a life devoid of Facebook and funny cat videos, let me share how I retrained myself to focus on what needs to get done.

Are you ready for my "secret"? It involves an egg timer, you and your task list.  Yes! I said an egg timer ... well technically it is the timer on your smart phone.

I am all about systems and so let me give you 7 little systematic steps that will help you build your focus muscle and manage the shiny objects in your life that just keep distracting you.

1.    Look at your to do list
2.    Pick one task that needs to get done
3.    Set your timer to 30 minutes
4.    Work on that task for the full 30 minutes
5.    After the timer goes off, reset it for 10 minutes
6.    Play with your shinny objects for 10 minutes
7.    After the timer goes off, reset it for 30 more minutes and get back to focusing on the task at hand

As you re-build your focus muscle and get better at it you can increase your work time to 45 minutes then 1 hour and so on BUT here is the discipline part ... you CANNOT increase the 10 minutes meant as play time.

I started this over a year ago and my productivity has tripled!  So for those that know me ... this is one of my systems that help me do all that I do! So go ahead give it a try and let me know how does shinny objects are treating you.

Interview with Steph Stanford with Steph Stanford Speaks

On January 10th, after a busy day of being a mom and new blogger, I had a gift to end my day with Steph Stanford.  She is known as The Happiness Expert and the words she shared with sure did make me HAPPY!  I know you will walk away with a happy thought or two!  And this blog is just in time to get to know her for her upcoming event!  So read on …

What is the name of your business?
My business is called Steph Stanford Speaks.
And an amazing speaker she is indeed.  Quirky, funny and hits home with her personal examples.  Y’all gotta hear her.

What service is that your business provides to your clients?
The service I provide is I am a professional speaker, author and coach and what I truly do is help women learn how to live happy lives.  I teach them how to have self-confidence.  How to be happier in their relationships.  And last to LISTEN IN!
She caught my attention with the “LISTEN IN”.  Read on and you will see what it is all about!!!

When did your business start?
You know what, I actually started speaking in 2008 but it’s funny.  I have always been that person thought that was the girl that everybody calls.  I am the one that your girlfriends call and say “Oh. I am going through something and I don’t know what to do?”  I sort of always had this natural talent for that as we all have gifts and talents but I started in 2008 with professional speaking but I really only decided to make this a business in 2011!  I wrote a book called Happy Ain’t That Hard and after I wrote the book I said I think I want to get the word out that people don’t have to fight to be happy and it’s really not that difficult so speaking evolved from that and then into coaching.
Her book is an easy read, set in a storytelling style.  It helped shift MY mindset about the chores I do at home.  And if you know me then you know … I HATE HOUSE CHORES but now I see them as one of the many ways that I provide for my monkeys and nurture them.  So if I walked away with that … what will you?

Your business is it home based?
It is a home based business.  Yes.  I was just going to say I actually really love that it takes a lot of the pressure out of a new business owner because there is much less risk and there are a lot tools available and it is not as hard as it used to be.
Love it how she uses TOOLS to make her home based business easier.  Oh how I wish more entrepreneurs found the right systems and persons to help them to make it easier for themselves.

Do you have a specific territory that you serve or do you go everywhere and anywhere?
Well.  Because I live in South Florida, the majority of people that I speak to on a regular basis are down here.  The speaking events that I attend have been in the state of Florida so far but I am open.  I will go anywhere if anybody needed a great speaker to come and help out and teach how to be happier.
She and I agree!  We are willing to travel and invitations to speak in locations such as Fiji and Hawaii will NOT be declined … any takers?

Who exactly does your business serve?
My business serves … truly anyone can be happy but in my heart I have a passion and a love for women.  I love all women but the women that I find that come to hear the messages that I have to share tend to be women who are usually between the ages of 30s to their 50s because I think they are women that are trying to figure out what they want from their lives.  At this point, they may have started an educational path or started a certain career or started out as being married and usually by this age group you are going through some kind of transition and you are trying to figure out if you made the right choice.  So those ladies are the ones that are trying to figure out usually are the one that find me.
I fall in that age group!  And we will *not* say to which end of the age group, I fall!!  All you will get is my name and serial #!

What need does your service provide to your customers?
Pay attention … previously I eluded to the LISTEN IN …
Wow!  Let me say this.  I call myself The Happiness Expert but as I mentioned earlier there are three primary areas in which I can help people.  There are 3 different needs when it comes to being happy.  The first is LISTENING IN.  So in other words, we are so busy.  We are on every type of device that we can possibly get our hands on.  We are trying to take care of our kids.  We are taking care of our men, our jobs, our homes.  It’s just crazy.  We don’t make time to just be quiet.  Even just a couple of minutes and so then one thing that I do and the first need that is being addressed is teaching people how be quiet and still.  And the reason we want to do it is because that is where the answers really come from.  Some people are looking outside, reading every book, talking to every expert but the best answers come from your own soul.  So I teach people how to LISTEN IN.  So that is one need.  The second need, I find in relationships is that no matter whether you are single or dating, a girlfriend, married, whatever your status is.  We also have some questions.  And I just feel like, again, we are working way too hard when instead we need to take a step back and remember something about ourselves.  And the thing we have to remember about ourselves is that being a woman is the most beautiful and wonderful gift that you have been given.  When you know how to use that womanly quality in your relationship, no matter what status it is, you can flip. You can make it good.  So that is another need that I address.  Women that in relationships that just aren’t going where they want it to go.  And last, self-confidence and I feel personally passionate about this one the most because I was the girl that faked it for a really long time.  I pretended to have confidence in many situations but I was really pretending.  The truth is I really beat myself up and I criticized myself all the time about the way that I looked and about the way that I did things in many areas.  So I’ve learned how to love myself, truly love myself.  I look at myself and say “Honey!  You are sexy”.  And I feel IT and I believe it.  I feel great about that.  So the third need that I address is the need for women to love themselves because we need to, we are divas and we just need to get that!
I love it!  There are bucket and buckets of ladies out there that beat themselves up.  How awesome is to have Steph in our corner showing us how to listen IN, use our womanly qualities and love ourselves.

Who is your backup system?
Oooh!  Great question.  Who is the backup system?  Wow!  OK.  I am going to say #1 and then again everyone’s answer will be different.  But this is what works in my life.  For me # 1 is God.  Everyday there are things that I face that are a challenge because I am in a business and it can be scary having a business.  Especially when you are putting your money out there and you are trying new things so for me personally, I go to God with my very real questions and I get quiet to get answers so that is my # 1 advisor.  First God is my backup.
#2 though … I have an awesome posse of girlfriends.  But we all have a lot of friends and you can hang with them.  You know it can be very light.  But I have a few girls that I call my cheerleaders.  Shout out to Vanessa & Jessica.
Lastly, I am married and my husband is like a quiet supporter.  He doesn’t get involved, he doesn’t say much but the way that he supports me and my business is that he allows me to do what I need to do.  I know he is there for me.  So that is my TEAM!
I truly related with Steph and who is in her backup system.  I am also happy to hear that she recognizes even her silent supporter, her hubby.  We can never forget who supports us.  They all do it in their own special way, with their own special gifts.

What was the entrepreneurial bug that bit you?
So it started actually with not liking where I was.  It started with discomfort.  It started with unhappiness.  I had moved to South Florida and went back to school to get a second college degree because I wanted to pursue a different type of career.  I wanted to be in business.  So I got that degree.  I got kind of my dream job.  I worked at Burger King Corporation in marketing and I got to do a lot of really fun things and I had a great budget.  I had a lot of freedom to create this marketing ideas that I always wanted to implement. It look like on paper exactly that it would be perfect but when I got there it wasn’t.  It wasn’t that anyone else had done anything wrong to me.  It’s just that I realized that this wasn’t where I wanted to be in my life.  So for 1 year, I sat out to figure that out. I took time to say “what do I love doing?” and “who do I love helping?”  To tell you the truth, I actually started to figure out what I want to do by asking myself this question: “If I were to die tomorrow what is the legacy that I want to leave today?  Who do I want to help and what do I want to give them?”  I ask myself all the time because as entrepreneurs, we have frustrating days, right?  We do!  We love what we do but we have days that things are not going your way.  Days when you know that you are burnt, just tired.  But I ask myself every day, “If today were my last day what would I want to do to help somebody?”  When I ask that I get re-motivated.  I really do!
So my entrepreneurial journey spirit began by not liking the job I was in and taking the time to ask myself questions.
Wow!  I am honored to have Steph share with me such great insight.  And YES!!  We should ask ourselves “If I were to die tomorrow what is the legacy that I want to leave today?”  It could shift how we ALL live our lives!

Up to now, what has been your biggest success?
(Deep exhale)  Overcoming fear!  Yes.  Overcoming fear has been my biggest success.  What I am saying is this … whenever I get a new idea, I am always so excited about it when I am laying there in my bed or writing in my journal or at the beach.  I am on fire.  I have a new project.  There is a new group of people that I want to talk to.  I have a new message.  I am excited.  But then when it is time to do something with it; if it’s something new that I have never done before or if it’s going to involve me putting some money up to make something happen, it gets scary for me.  My greatest success is been learning when you feel scared you don’t have to stop.  Yes!  You are scared.  Entrepreneurs feel scared and go anyway.  That is my absolute, greatest success because I face it all the time and I am getting stronger and better and it is getting easier.  So that is HUGE for me.
These words will hit home with so many entrepreneurs reading this.  It is comforting to know that even coaches like Steph herself have fears but what makes her great is that her fear does not stop her!  She works through them.

Other than overcoming your fears, what has been your biggest challenge?
One has been working with new technology.  Some women just have that gift but it is not natural for all of us.  And when I have to try something new it can be incredibly frustrating.  And I will be honest, I can make a lot of mistakes.  But the greatest thing that I am learning is that we all make mistakes so KEEP IT MOVING!  Fix it, get it out there, and keep going.  Go!
I am sure lots of you can relate with Steph and not having high techie, techie natural flair but I love how she said “KEEP IT MOVING!”  Because keep it moving is my motto as well!  I love how I connected with Steph.  There are just some souls out there that are kindred.  She is kindred to mine!
Now I do have more of this interview that I can share … BUT … I believe that Lady Steph has shared soooooooooo much amazing insight that I want to stop here and give you time to breath in what you have just read.
Lady Steph was a much needed light in my life.  I now drive to work with the radio off and I give myself the opportunity be quiet and still so that I may listen inwardly for answers.

Stephanie has a special offer for those in MY TRIBE!  She is hosting an event to help women answer “those” #sideeyes questions they have about … MEN.  And you can join her for $37.  WooT  WooT!

My Meal Planning Board

You walk in the door and what is the first thing you hear from those *other* inhabitants in your dwelling?  I don't know about you but for my household, it isn’t "How was your day?" or "Can I get you a glass of wine? ... Nope! That only happens in my dreams.  Instead I hear the same question ... "What's for dinner?" Ugh!!  Yeppers.  I started down the road of family life 20 years ago and for that long those have been my welcome home words.  And to top it off, I struggled daily with "WTF do I make with this here bird?”  Yes ladies.  You know that we both just stand there in the kitchen staring at that chicken hoping it sits up and tells us how it wishes to be cooked because we are too tired after a day of work to think of any recipe to make.  Well let me share with you what I did to redirect that daily dinner question and not be stuck in the what-to-cook dilemma.  Ready?  Let's me show you my dinner board!

Yup! I even plan my week in meals.  As you get to know me via my blog you will see a trend ... my life is planned one-week-at-a-time.

So let me tell you about this board:
First, it wasn't my original idea. I found a picture of one similar on that pin-thingy site and it got the creative juices going because I love systems that help my life easier!
Second, adapt this idea to how it will work for YOU. Just like I did because my board looks nothing like the pin-thingy board.
Third this board will become your kitchen buddy by helping you plan your meals and grocery shopping one week at a time.

Now let me share with you how you can put it all together and how you can use it for planning the week ahead for both cooking and grocery shopping.

Step 1 – DA’LIST
Before you run off to Super Wally World to buy stuff to make your board, sit down and make a list of every possible dish you can cook (with or without a recipe).  Think of the dishes that your family loves, are fun to make, you crave, you make on only special occasions, are make ahead to save time.  You can also add a wild meal tag called *Look for New Recipe*.  Even add *Order Pizza* and *Pick up Chinese* and *Hubby Cook*.  Also ask your husband and kids for dishes they like for you to cook.  They might say something that is not on your list already.  Write down every one of them down.  You will surprise yourself as to how long that list can be.  I know after I was done I had 80+ dishes!!  Leaving me perplexed because how it that I still didn't know what the heck to cook every night?

#shaking #my #head (Hashtags in blogs? Yeah! Why not!)

Step 2 – DA’SUPPLIES
Now you are ready to go shopping for your board supplies.  I will tell you about the supplies I purchased but remember ... make it your own!  Mine is minimalistic but fully practical. Just like me. You like Hello Kitty then kitty it up!  Or go on that Pin-thingy for inspiration.

1.    Dry erase board (the kind that is magnetic)
2.    7 Magnets (Not too big that they take up the entire board)
3.    Two *cups* that are also magnetic. Mine were accessories made for my board.
4.    Card stock to print out little meal tags.
5.    Alphabet stickers.
6.    Ruler (to help line up those sticker letters)
7.    Nail and hammer to put up your board.

Step 3 – DA’MEAL TAGS
Once again this how I did it but you can write them out on index cards or find a pic of that meal or make them out on Avery labels and the stick them on card stock.  Whatever works for you babycakes!

·         I made my list on Microsoft Excel.
·         I added a cell in between each meal.
·         I formatted the font and color.
·         I formatted the borders (to have a guide for cutting them out)
·         Did a print preview to make sure they were not too small or too big.
·         Printed out the list on cardstock.
·         Cut them out.

Step 4 – DA’BOARD
Label your *cups* -> 2COOK & COOKED.

Map out how you will lay out your board.  You will need a spot for your *cups*. Spots for the days of the week.  Once it is all laid out then apply the stickers for the days of the week. *HINT* I only used the first letter of the day of the week. Why drive myself crazy trying to line up S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y in stickers?

Step 5 – DA’PLAN
In the *cup* 2COOK put in all your meal tags.

I do my grocery shopping on Sundays to get me ready for my week ahead.  Before heading out to the supermarket.  My kids are the tag pullers.  They randomly pull out 7 meal tags from the 2COOK *cup*. Gets them involved.

Now I check my pantry to see what I need to buy to make those seven meals and whatever I am missing gets added to my shopping list.

I then take out my planner and see what appointments I might have at dinner time. "What does her planner have to do with this?” you ask. So I can figure what day to cook what meal tag.  Think about this ... I will be networking at night on Wednesday.  So is Wednesday night a good night to cook something that takes a long time or is complicated? NO!!! That night is a good night to put in an easy meal or even use ... dun dun dunnnnn ... the *Order Pizza* meal tag.  I then place my meal tags in their weekly spot (using a magnet to hold them in place).

The next steps for using your board take place daily:

·         In the morning look at your board. What needs to be defrosted?
·         At dinner time ... get ready ... cook what the board says for that day.
·         When the inhabitants of your home ask "what's for dinner?" Point to board.  After a while they will stop asking and are you ready for this?  They will READ THE BOARD. Sweet Jesus!!!
·         After dinner, move today's meal tag into the COOKED *cup*.

Do this daily/weekly.  Stick to it. It will build your good habit muscle.

Once you run out of meal tags in the 2COOK *cup* then grab all of them from the COOKED *cup* and refill the 2COOK *cup* and start over again.

So what do you think? This little board saves me time, frustration and money. Yes!!! Money.  No more shopping for things I don't need or already have in my pantry.  Sooooo ... go get your board going and share a pic of yours with me!!
